Waking up yesterday morning to a pretty covering of snow was a really nice way to begin my birthday. 44 doesn’t feel any different than 43, so no biggie there. I decided to grab a half dozen donuts for us for breakfast. The perfect food for an aging body right, LOL? Since my work now allows for a paid birthday day off, I took advantage, and planned a nice trip up Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Around lunch time we headed out to Midvale to grab some banh mi from Pho Saigon Noodle House 2. It’s their new location, and is it good! We took our sandwiches to go and drove up the canyon towards Brighton. The snow started fluttering down about half way up the canyon, so pretty and peaceful.
As we arrived at the Solitude Nordic Center, the snow was coming down pretty good and it was a chilly 16 degrees. We ate our lunch in the car and watched the snow come down. After living our whole lives until last year, in sunny weather, with no season change, the Utah winters will never get old! After eating lunch we headed out for a little walk along the boardwalk and took some selfies that may be used for our holiday cards.
After taking some photos we drove around the bend to Brighton and explored for a few minutes as well. Not much going on over there just yet. Some snowboarders were taking runs and the staff were blowing man made snow, getting ready for their season.
The snow continued to flutter as we headed back down towards the city. I had a nice time and already can’t wait to go back.
I took Wasatch Blvd. back towards home since the air quality was so nice after the storm blew out the smog layer. I spotted the Mt. Olympus trailhead parking area and pulled over for a few photos of the area. I’m not a fan of the dried-up brown summer and fall Utah scenery, but the white winter coat changes my attitude 180 degrees! And the super green spring time scenery is just as good as well.
After relaxing at home for a couple hours, we headed over to Gamestop so V could get his Pokemon line place holder at 8pm. Then it was time for sushi dinner! I hadn’t had a sushi birthday dinner in a few years, so I was looking forward to it. We decided to go to Kobe on Wasatch Blvd. in the Mt. Olympus neighborhood. It was pretty mellow and tasty. I had a bowl of curry ramen, a pour of sake and an shrimp/eel roll. Jenn and V went for all rolls, some tempura veggies and edamame. Really cool place with good food, we’ll be back.
The final part of the night was spent in the parking lot of Gamestop, waiting for the midnight release of Pokemon Sun and Moon. V loves those games and has grown up playing them, so we always do a midnight release if they have one. It’s usually pretty fun, but this year there was some douchery going on in line. Too many drama geeks over hyped on their own bullshit, LOL. But whatever, we came home and he launched into his new game and I nodded off into sleep. Super fun birthday, loved it.
